Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Last year, 25 awards were given.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be enrolled or plan to enroll full time.
  3. Must major in a marine-related field.
  4. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award.
  5. Undergradute and graduate students must be a Marine Technology Society member. High school seniors do not have to be a MTS member.

Description: This scholarship is available for full-time undergraduate and graduate students who are majoring in a marine-related field.

Additional Information: *Note: Students do not have to be MTS members to apply for the award for high school seniors only. The following types of students, who meet all other eligibility requirements, are eligible to apply for this scholarship: graduate; undergraduate; two-year technical, engineering, and community college; and graduating high school seniors. The Marine Technology Society is dedicated to supporting marine education and students. To that end, the society offers annual scholarships for MTS (and some for non-MTS) students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in a marine-related field.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications are available online on the Marine Technology Society (MTS) website. As part of the completed application, the student must write an essay of 500 words or less that discusses his/her interest in marine technology, how his/her interest in marine technology relates to his/her current field of study, and how he/she plans to use his/her degree. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: a written recommendation from a current teacher or counselor in a marine-related field (for high school seniors, the recommendation may be from any current teacher or counselor, although one in a science field is preferred); a written letter of reference from someone he/she knows who is not a teacher or counselor; and an official sealed transcript (may be sent separately by the school). High school seniors must also submit proof that they have been accepted to a two- or four-year academic program (such as an acceptance letter from the program). One application may be used to apply for all MTS scholarships, except for the ROV Scholarship. The completed application form may be either completed online or emailed to the address provided. All additional materials must be submitted by email.
