Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must enroll full time.
  3. Must be a current undergraduate or graduate student.
  4. Must have a demonstrated or expressed interest in the plastics industry and be majoring in or taking courses that are beneficial to a career in the plastics/polymer industry. This would include, but is not limited to, plastics engineering, polymer science, chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, and industrial engineering.
  5. Must have graduated from a high school in Pennsylvania.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: U.S. and international undergraduate and graduate students who have a demonstrated or expressed interest in the plastics industry are eligible for this award. Applicants must have graduated from a high school in Pennsylvania.

Application requirements for the SPE Pittsburgh Section Scholarship are:

  • Proof of graduation
Additional Information: Applicants must be in good academic standing with their schools. Financial need of applicants will be considered for most scholarships. All scholarships will be paid directly to the recipients' schools. The SPE Foundation will not award scholarships to applicants who are not qualified and reserves the right to not award a scholarship in a given year if it so chooses.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.

Applications will be available online from the Society of Plastic Engineers (SPE) Foundation website.9 In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: three recommendation letters (two from a teacher or school official and one from an employer or non-relative); a high school and/or college transcript for the last two years; a listing of current and past school activities and community activities and honors; a listing of his/her employment history, starting with his/her most recent job; a one- to two-page typed statement telling why he/she is applying for the scholarship, his/her qualifications, and his/her educational and career goals in the plastics industry; and proof that he/she attended an eligible high school. The application and all supporting materials must be sent to the SPE Foundation by the deadline date.
