Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. In 2015, two scholarships were awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher if an undergraduate student OR 3.5 or higher if a graduate student.
  4. Must be at least a second-year undergraduate student enrolled as a sophomore or junior in a four-year institution OR a graduate student enrolled in his/her second semester in two or more semester-equivalent courses per term. College freshmen and seniors are not eligible.
  5. Must be majoring in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) field related to the mission of AFCEA. Qualifying STEM majors include: biometry/biometrics, computer engineering, computer forensics science, computer programming, computer science, computer systems, cybersecurity, electrical engineering, electronics engineering, geospatial science, information science, information technology, information resource management, intelligence, mathematics, network engineering, network security, operations, research, physics, robotics engineering, robotics technology, statistics, strategic intelligence, and telecommunications engineering.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is open to U.S. college sophomores and juniors and graduate students who are majoring in a STEM field relevant to the mission of AFCEA (includes cyber security, intelligence, and homeland security). Undergraduate students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher; graduate students must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

  • Recommendation letters (2)
  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
Additional Information: Students enrolled in online programs are eligible. High school students are not eligible to apply.

Award Amount: The award amount varies annually. Scholarship awards are subject to availability of funding. Scholarship awards are restricted to tuition, mandatory fees, and books.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications are available online from the Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association Educational Foundation (AFCEA) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit official transcripts and the names and email addresses of two recommenders who are faculty in the major of study. Instructions for electronic submission of the recommendation letters will be provided to the endorsers as part of the online application process. Graduate students must also submit a resume. Please note: It is preferred that transcripts be submitted electronically, but transcripts may be mailed to the address provided if electronic submission is not possible. Applications and supporting materials must be submitted by the deadline date.
