Number of Awards & Eligibility: Three awards offered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must enroll full time at an accredited college or university.
  3. Must pursue a career related to the extraction and processing of minerals, metals and materials.
  4. Must be enrolled in a metallurgical/materials science engineering program.
  5. Must be a college sophomore or junior in good standing at a recognized degree-granting school at time of application.
  6. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 GPA or higher.
  7. Must be a member of The Minerals, Metals, and Materials Society (TMS).

Description: This award is available for international and U.S. college juniors and/or seniors. Students must be enrolled in a metallurgical/materials science engineering program. The applicant must be a member of the Material Advantage student program. (A student membership application may accompany the scholarship application.)

Additional Information: The following criteria will be assessed by the scholarship selection committee to select the recipients of this scholarship: scholarship application; academic achievement; activities in and out of school, including work experience; leadership; personal profile statement; and letters of recommendation. Relatives of members of the TMS Student Affairs Committee or of the TMS Funding Committee/Division are not eligible. Please note: The applicant may apply for up to two of the TMS Scholarship Programs.

Award Amount: Three awards of $2,500 plus up to $500 for travel expenses is available to each recipient in order to accept the award at the luncheon.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $8,000.

Applications are available online from The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS) website. The applicant must submit typed information on the official 'TMS Scholarship Application Form,' which can be downloaded online on the TMS website or can be acquired from the materials/metallurgy department of the applicant's school, from his/her student chapter faculty advisor, or from TMS headquarters. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must submit the following: an individual statement (no longer than one typewritten, double-spaced page) describing his/her unique educational experiences (e.g., special projects), career plans, leadership experience, and community involvement; three completed 'TMS Scholarship Recommendation Forms' (available on the TMS website) from educators and/or employers who are familiar with the applicant's background; and an up-to-date transcript or fax of his/her college academic record. Please Note: Applicants must be members of the Material Advantage student program. Membership into the Material Advantage student program costs $25 per year. A student membership application may accompany the scholarship application and is available online. All application materials must be submitted via email, no later than the deadline.
