Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be a graduating high school senior.
  4. Must attend a high school or home school in Idaho.
  5. Must plan to attend an institution of higher learning in Idaho during the upcoming academic year.
  6. Must have a grade point average of C or higher.

Description: This scholarship is open to U.S. high school seniors who attend an Idaho high school and plan to attend an Idaho college or university. The student must submit an essay or research paper on an aspect of the Holocaust, and must have a grade point average of C or higher.

Additional Information: The Alois and Marie Goldmann Scholarship was established in 1997 by Mary and George Freund in honor of George's grandparents who perished at the Auschwitz concentration camp during the Holocaust. The purpose of this scholarship is to promote a greater understanding of the Holocaust among high school students in Idaho. The primary basis for the selection of a scholarship winner is an original essay or research paper. Beyond a minimum C grade point average, scholastic achievement, financial need and extracurricular or community activities are not factors in selecting the winner. The scholarship committee consists of both Freund family and non-family members. The winner will be contacted no later than June 1.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online on the Idaho Community Foundation website. In addition to a completed application, each student must submit an essay or formal research paper on one specific aspect of the Holocaust. The essay/paper must be two to six pages in length and must be double-spaced with one-inch margins and 10- to 12-point font. If writing a research paper, the student must include a complete bibliography and list of references to support his/her research. The student must include a title page with the name of the essay/paper, his/her name, and the date. The student must either submit a high school transcript (that includes grades through the first semester of senior year) or have his/her high school counselor sign the application form to verify that he/she meets the minimum grade point average. Applications must be emailed to the address provided and must be received by the deadline date.
