In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Maine.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  4. Must be a high school or home-schooled senior at time of application.

Description: Maine high school seniors are eligible to enter this essay contest. Students must submit an essay about remembrance of the Holocaust to enter.

Additional Information: Students must have been accepted into any accredited college, university or technical school that is Title IV eligible. The scholarship recipient will be announced at the annual meeting of the HHRC and at an appropriate event at the recipient's school.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable. The scholarship will be awarded after the student shows successful completion of the first semester of college.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online from the Holocaust Human Rights Center of Maine (HHRC), or may be requested via postal mail. When sending a request for an application through postal mail, the student must include a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Applications are accepted beginning on Jan. 1 each year. In addition to a completed application, the student must include an essay on 'Why is it important that the remembrance, history and lessons of the Holocaust be passed to a new generation?'. The essay is not to exceed four pages, must be double-spaced, and must be typed or computer generated. Applicants must include a self-addressed, stamped, #10 envelope with their application packets. *Please note: Grade sheets and/or letters of recommendation should NOT be included with the application packet. The application, essay, and envelope must be sent in one packet to the address provided, postmarked by the deadline date.
