Number of Awards & Eligibility: An average of two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  3. Must be a resident of Vermont.
  4. Must be a current or incoming undergraduate student.
  5. Must enroll on a half-time (six credits) or higher basis.
  6. Must demonstrate a documented disability (based on a 504 plan or IEP from his/her school, or a statement from Vocational Rehabilitation).

Description: This scholarship is open to Vermont undergraduate students who demonstrate a documented disability (based on a 504 Plan or IEP from their school or a statement from Vocational Rehabilitation). Students must demonstrate financial need and education/work ethic.

Additional Information: Former U.S. Senator James M. Jeffords of Vermont established this scholarship to honor his wife, Elizabeth Daley Jeffords, by providing financial support to students with disabilities who wish to pursue college degrees. Please note: This scholarship is funded by an endowment subject to laws restricting disbursements under certain investment yield scenarios; as a result, there can be no guarantee of a scholarship award for the upcoming academic year. Applicants must: attend an accredited school approved for federal Title IV funding; demonstrate financial need; and demonstrate education/work ethic. Selection is based on application documents, financial need, and a personal interview (if necessary). There are approximately 95 applicants for this award each year.

Award Amount: Up to $4,000 annually.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $8,000.

Applications are available from the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC) website. Applications may be completed either online or in paper form beginning on November 1. Please note: The student is only required to submit one application for all scholarships for which he/she wishes to apply. In addition, if a particular document is required for more than one scholarship, the student need only submit one copy of that document. To apply, the student must complete and submit the VSAC Unified Scholarship Application and submit the following materials: a letter of recommendation; an essay; and official transcripts. NOTE: Required additional materials MUST conform to the detailed instructions in the VSAC Scholarships Booklet. The student is highly encouraged to review the booklet thoroughly when assembling materials. Electronic applications and any digital versions of supplemental materials must be submitted by midnight on the deadline date. Paper applications or any supplemental materials in paper form must be postmarked by the deadline date.
