Number of Awards & Eligibility: One scholarship will be awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a current high school senior, undergraduate, or graduate student.
  2. Must be diagnosed with cancer.
  3. Must be majoring in business and/or planning to own or operate a restaurant.
  4. This award is for U.S. students and international students studying in the U.S.

Description: Since 1993, Cancer for College has provided hope and inspiration to cancer survivors in the form of college scholarships. Applicants must be business majors or related fields with desires to pursue careers in the food service industry, and possibly owning and operating a restaurant.

Application requirements for the Leonard Family Entrepreneurial Spirit Scholarship are:

  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • Recommendation letter
  • Copy of prior year tax return
  • Confirmation of cancer diagnosis
  • Personal statement
Additional Information: Applicants are not discriminated against based on sex, race or religious belief. Community college applicants are eligible, but award may not be greater than the amount needed. All remaining applicants will be eligible for other one-time awards. Scholarship recipients must maintain full-time enrollment at his/her stated university. Failure to maintain full-time enrollment or transfer from a 4-year university to a community college may result in loss of scholarship funds. Graduate students receiving scholarships do not need to maintain full-time student status. Scholarship recipients experiencing health-related issues that force them to leave school may request a one-time extension of their scholarship, not to exceed one school year. Recipients exceeding this time will forgo their scholarship but may reapply when ready to return to school. In addition to meeting all requirements for a general scholarship, an applicant must be a business major or related field with a desire to pursue a career in the food service industry, and potentially own and operate a restaurant. Scholarships will be announced on or before July 1.

Award Amount: A scholarship of $5,000 will be awarded.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.
