In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must plan to pursue a career in a public works field.
  2. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  3. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.
  4. Must reside in Pinellas County, Florida.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  6. This award is for U.S. students.

Description: This scholarship is available for Pinellas County high school seniors who plan to pursue a career in a public works-related field. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Additional Information: Sponsored by the Pinellas Public Works Academy, this award is provided each year in honor of L. Bary Santy. Applicants must demonstrate strength in math and science, and plan to pursue a career in a public works-related field such as industrial management, civil engineering, environmental science, civil technology, landscape operations & management, waste and/or land water management, construction or building technology, or public administration.

Award Amount: $1,050 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,100.

Applications and information about this award are available online at the Pinellas Education Foundation website using the link provided. To be considered for this award, students must complete an online application form consisting of 12 steps. Completed applications will include information about the following items: the student's academic record; participation in community, service, and extracurricular activities; financial need as detailed in the Student Aid Report obtained by filing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); information about subjects the student is interested in through a list of prospective majors; as well as the names of any colleges or universities the student has applied to or been accepted to. The student's academic information may be sent directly from his/her high school. The Student Aid Report (SAR) is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. To be considered for the L. Bary Santy Memorial and Public Works Academy Scholarship, students must also submit an additional essay of 200 to 500 words describing what event, person, or idea has influenced the applicant's pursuit of education. All applications must be completed online by the deadline date.
