Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a rescue worker (pre-hospital care provider, fireman or police officer).
  3. Must major in nursing.
  4. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  5. Must be pursuing an associate's or bachelor's degree.
  6. Must have one year pre-hospital work as a rescue worker (pre-hospital care provider, firefighter, police officer).

Description: This fund awards scholarships to rescue workers who are going to school to obtain their undergraduate nursing degrees. The applicant must be a member of a state or national professional EMT, firefighter or police officer association and have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Additional Information: This fund awards scholarships to rescue workers who are going to school to obtain their undergraduate nursing degrees. Eligible rescue workers include pre-hospital care providers, fire fighters, and police officers. The applicant must be a member of a state or national professional EMT, firefighter or police officer association. The scholarship is not limited geographically. The criteria for determining awards are as follows, in descending priority: content/clarity of goal statement (45 percent); professional association involvement (45 percent); and grade point average, with emphasis placed on science/nursing courses (10 percent).

Award Amount: $2,000, annually, non-renewable. The recipients will also be awarded a complimentary one-year ENA membership.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications are available online from the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) website. The application must be typewritten, saved as a PDF file, and uploaded through the online application portal. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit the following: two references (one must be from a current ENA member); proof of acceptance into an undergraduate nursing program (copy of acceptance letter and current transcript); proof of one year or more of pre-hospital work experience (copy of current EMT registration card, or letter from employer); verification of school tuition costs (a copy from the institution's official course catalog is preferred); a biographical data form; and a statement of professional/educational goals (this must include applicability to emergency nursing). All applications and supporting materials must be submitted online prior to the deadline date.
