Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Generally, one to two awards are offered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international students.
  2. Must not be a U.S. citizen nor hold a green card. Individuals who are seeking or have been granted asylum in the U.S. are welcome to apply.
  3. Must openly identify as LGBTQI.
  4. Must reside in New York City.
  5. Must have completed at least one full academic year at an eligible college or university and must be working toward a bachelor's degree.
  6. Must have a current, most recent, or cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher.
  7. Must attend an accredited, non-profit New York City school.

Description: This scholarship is for LGBTQI students who are not citizens nor permanent residents of the United States and who reside and attend school in New York City. Students must have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher, and must have completed at least one full academic year.

Additional Information: Scholarships will be awarded on the bases of both need and merit. Candidates should: have a clearly expressed need for financial support; have and be able to maintain an excellent academic record; and demonstrate interest and involvement in their school and/or local community.

Award Amount: Up to $12,500 annually, renewable for one additional year. The student must maintain a grade point average of 3.25 each term to renew the scholarship.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $25,000.

Applications are available online on the Stonewall Foundation website. In addition to a completed application, the student must submit the following: two letters of recommendation; and his/her most recent transcript. Please note: Unsealed transcripts will be accepted, but they must be on official school letterhead as issued by the registrar's office. Application materials must be submitted online by noon on the deadline date.
