Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to three awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be a graduating high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate award.
  4. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  5. Must plan to attend or transfer to Lake Superior State University in Michigan.
  6. Must demonstrate interest in public service, as reflected through leadership roles and volunteer activities in his/her school and community.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Michigan high school seniors or older students who have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and plan to attend Lake Superior State University are eligible for this award. Applicants must demonstrate interest in public service, as reflected through leadership roles and volunteer activities in their school and community.

Application requirements for the LSSU Senator Philip A. Hart Memorial Scholarship are:

Additional Information: The Philip A. Hart Memorial Scholarship will be award students whose ideals and goals reflect those of the Senator.

Award Amount: Full tuition ($10,392) annually, renewable for up to three additional years.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $41,568.

Applications are available online from the Lake Superior State University (LSSU) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit a 1,000-word essay detailing his/her values, goals, and public service experience while responding the question, “How do my leadership and public service roles relate to the goals and ideals of Senator Philip A. Hart?”; two letters of recommendation; and a copy of his/her most current transcript. Applications must be postmarked or submitted online by the deadline date.
