Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Rhode Island.
  3. Must have parents who did not graduate from college.
  4. Must graduate from a high school in Rhode Island.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must be a high school senior who has been accepted to or enrolled in a two- or four-year college.
  7. Must have participated in community service activities.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for Rhode Island high school seniors whose parents did not graduate from college. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and community service.

Additional Information: Eligible candidates must demonstrate financial need.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, renewable for up to three additional years.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.

Applications are available on the Rhode Island Foundation website. The student must click on the "Scholarship/Fellowship Opportunities" link and then search for his/her desired scholarship to access the application. As part of the online application, the student must upload the following required documents: a completed 'Financial Information Worksheet' (accessible for download in the application); a copy of his/her SAR (Student Aid Report), which is generated after filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid); the most recent version of his/her student transcript (unofficial accepted); an essay of 300 words or less on the topic listed on the application; a list detailing his/her community service activities and any part-time work; and a letter of recommendation from a teacher. Please note: The letter must be emailed to RBogert@RIFoundation.org instead of uploaded to the application. Documents must be in Word, Excel, or PDF formats. File names should describe the attachment. Applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. EST on the deadline date.
