Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. and international students.
  2. Must reside in Boulder, Colorado.
  3. Must demonstrate a commitment to advancing LGBT equality.
  4. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  5. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.

Additional Information: The Hodges Social Activism Scholarship was established in 2013 to honor the leadership of Jean and Jack Hodges and their commitment to PFLAG (Parents, Families, & Friends of Lesbians and Gays) since l993. Jean and Jack's interest in education, social justice, and young people is exemplified in their lives. Jack was a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Colorado for 35 years. Jean was a faculty member and Theatre Director at Boulder High School. After her retirement in l995, Jean Hodges helped to co-found the Boulder Valley Safe Schools Coalition and St. Vrain Valley Safe Schools Coalition so as to change the school climate to be more accepting of LGBT students and staff. Having received awards for their own social activism, the Hodges wish to promote the growth and development of young adults who continue the work to advance equality to ensure "justice and liberty for all Americans."

Award Amount: $500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

Applications are available at the Boulder, CO chapter of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) website. In addition to a completed application form, official high school transcripts, and essay responses, students must submit at least two letters of recommendation from teachers, faculty members, or other adult individuals who are familiar with the applicant's community service efforts. All application materials and supporting documents must be mailed to the address provided above, and must be received by the deadline date.
