Number of Awards & Eligibility: Three awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or as a straight ally dedicated to LGBT causes.
  2. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  3. Must be a high school senior or undergraduate student at the time of application.
  4. Must be a resident of South Orange County.
  5. This award is for U.S. and international students.

Description: This scholarship is available to residents of South Orange County between the ages of 17-24 who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex, or queer, and to straight allies who have directly supported LGBTQI youth and/or the LGBTQI community.

Additional Information: PFLAG South Orange County is pleased to provide this scholarship program, designed to recognize and assist graduating high school seniors and college/vocational students with exceptional academic and community service records. Scholarships are available to residents of South Orange County between the ages of 17-24 who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex, or queer, and to straight allies who have directly supported LGBTQI youth and/or the LGBTQI community.

Award Amount: $2,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Applications are available at the South Orange County, California chapter of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) website. To apply for this award, the following items must be submitted electronically to the email address provided: a completed application form including essay response; an unofficial transcript from the most recent educational institution that the student has attended; and proof of residency such as the applicant's or a parent's driver's license. In addition to a completed digital email submission, students must also arrange to have a signed and sealed letter of recommendation delivered to the postal address provided above. This letter must be from a teacher, faculty member, or another unrelated, adult individual who is familiar with the applicant's community service efforts and advocacy for the LGBT community. All application materials and supporting documents must be submitted through email and all letters of recommendation must be received via postal mail no later than the deadline date.
