Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must reside in Androscoggin county, Maine.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  3. This award is for U.S. students.
  4. Must demonstrate unmet financial need.
  5. Must be a high school senior or undergraduate at the time of application.
  6. Preference is given to students attending a college in Androscoggin, and secondary preference is given to students attending a college or university elsewhere in Maine.

Description: This scholarship is available for residents of Androscoggin County, Maine. Applicants must have unmet financial need and must be attending or planning to attend a college or university in Maine.

Additional Information: Established in 1916 through the will of Annette M. Brown, a local area teacher, this scholarship has been providing funds to Androscoggin County students in need for nearly one hundred years. The selection process is handled by a subcommittee of the Maine Community Foundation’s Androscoggin County Committee. First preference will be given to students attending a college in Androscoggin County, and second preference will be given to students attending a college or university elsewhere in the state of Maine.

Award Amount: Award amounts vary based on the funds available, the number of recipients selected, and individual financial need.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications and additional information about this award can be found online at the Maine Community Foundation website using the link provided.To be considered for this award, students must submit a completed application form, as well as the following supporting documents: a personal statement, written as a letter addressed to the scholarship committee, that introduces the applicant and his/her goals; a recent letter of recommendation from a teacher or employer who can speak to the candidate's academic and professional potential; and financial information in the form of a FAFSA documentation such as a Student Aid Report.The Student Aid Report (SAR) is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices.Applications and supporting documents must be mailed to the provided address, and must be postmarked no later than the deadline date.
