Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately 10 awards offered annually. Please note: This scholarship is funded by an endowment subject to laws restricting disbursements under certain yield scenarios; as a result, there can be no guarantee of a scholarship award for the upcoming academic year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen.
  3. Must graduate from a Chittenden County (VT) high school.
  4. Must demonstrate academic achievement by having a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  5. Must be a resident of Vermont.
  6. Must be a high school senior who will earn a diploma or GED by the start of the upcoming school year.

Description: This scholarship is available for Vermont high school seniors who attend a high school in Chittenden County. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and demonstrate financial need.

Additional Information: In 1981, the Burlington Veterans' Club established an educational trust fund with Vermont Student Assistance Corporation to help Vermont students pursue a postsecondary education. VSAC arranged for the proceeds of the trust to be distributed annually as scholarships to worthy Chittenden County high school seniors. Eligible students must plan to attend an accredited postsecondary school approved for federal Title IV funding and must demonstrate financial need. Selection is based on academic achievement, financial need, recommendation letter, and an essay.

Award Amount: Up to $1,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $15,000.

Applications are available from the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC) website. Applications may be completed either online or in paper form beginning on November 1. Please note: The student is only required to submit one application for all scholarships for which he/she wishes to apply. In addition, if a particular document is required for more than one scholarship, the student need only submit one copy of that document.To apply, the student must complete and submit the VSAC Unified Scholarship Application and submit the following materials: a letter of recommendation; an essay; and official transcripts. NOTE: Required additional materials MUST conform to the detailed instructions in the VSAC Scholarships Booklet. The student is highly encouraged to review the booklet thoroughly when assembling materials.Electronic applications and any digital versions of supplemental materials must be submitted by midnight on the deadline date. Paper applications or any supplemental materials in paper form must be postmarked by the deadline date.
