Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to five awards provided annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be active in the Christian Church.
  2. Must be an immigrant or first-generation American.
  3. Must be Chinese.
  4. Must reside in California.
  5. This award is for U.S. and international students.
  6. Must be a high school senior or undergraduate student at the time of application.

Description: The Cynthia H. Kuo Scholarship is available for Chinese students in California who are active within the Christian faith. Applicants must be graduating high school seniors or undergraduate students and must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Application requirements for the Cynthia H. Kuo Scholarship are:

Additional Information: The Cynthia H. Kuo Scholarship is provided annually in memory of Cynthia Kuo through her husband, Dale Chen, and her best friend, Elisa Yu. The award was founded in 2012 and seeks to continue the work that Cynthia Kuo began in life. Cynthia enjoyed being part of a large Christian family, and before her death she helped to establish a Christian fellowship organization for Chinese students studying in the San Fransisco area.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $25,000.

Applications are available on the Silicon Valley Community Foundation website. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit the following: two letters of recommendation (the letters must be from the people listed on the application); an official transcript of grades; a personal statement addressing the topics listed on the application; evidence of financial need as described on the application; and proof of U.S. citizenship (photocopy of birth certificate, passport or naturalization papers). The complete application packet must be completed online by the deadline date.
