Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of California.
  3. Must plan to enroll full time at an accredited college or university.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.
  5. Must be an undergraduate student at the time of application.
  6. Must reside in Alameda County, Santa Clara County, Santa Cruz County, and San Mateo County.
  7. Must be a woman.
  8. Must be a single parent and head of household.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available for single mothers who are the head of household in Alameda County, Santa Clara County, Santa Cruz County, and San Mateo County. Applicants must be enrolled in a two or four year degree program at the time of application.

Additional Information: The Deblinger Family Scholarship was established to assist lower-income single mothers who are the primary earner in their households. Funds are provided annually to deserving women who demonstrate a strong potential for success, in the hopes that such assistance will contribute to tuition, expenses related to school, and other household bills such as rent, food, and healthcare. To be eligible, applicants must reside in Alameda County, Santa Clara County, Santa Cruz County, and San Mateo County. Additional preference and consideration will be given to students from East Palo Alto, Oakland, San Jose, and Watsonville.

Award Amount: Up to $10,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $20,000.

Applications are available on the Peninsula Community Foundation website. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit the following: two signed and dated letters of recommendation sealed in their own envelopes (the letters must be from the people listed on the application); an official transcript of grades; a signed and dated personal statement addressing the topics listed on the application; evidence of financial need; and proof of U.S. citizenship (photocopy of birth certificate, passport or naturalization papers) or documentation of legal residency (photocopy of visa or green card). The complete application packet must be received by the Peninsula Community Foundation by 5:00 p.m. PST on the deadline.
