Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  2. Must have completed at least one year of undergraduate study.
  3. Must be majoring in welding or a welding-related field.
  4. Must be a resident of Michigan, or attend a college/university in Michigan.
  5. This award is for U.S. and international students.

Description: This scholarship is available for undergraduate students who have completed at least one year of undergraduate study in a field related to welding. Applicants must reside in Michigan or attend a college in Michigan.

Additional Information: This scholarship is sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Roth for a student pursuing a two-year or four-year degree in welding in the state of Michigan. The student must have completed their first year of higher education, be a full time student, and have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0. Proof of financial need is required. Preference will be given to students in the field of resistance welding. Students selected for a scholarship award may also be required to submit a 5x7 head and shoulder color photograph for promotional purposes.

Award Amount: $2,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Information about this award is available online on the American Welding Society (AWS) website and applications may be obtained by emailing Vicky Pinsky at vpinsky@aws.org. In addition to the completed application, the student must also submit the following: two letters of reference with one letter of reference indicating previous hands-on welding experience; a personal statement; original official transcript(s) sent directly from the college or university (if applying for more than one scholarship, only one transcript must be an original official transcript); verification of enrollment; an essay as specified on the application; and a statement of unmet financial need. Students must also file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by the deadline date. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. In addition to the FAFSA report, students applying for this scholarship must also submit a statement of unmet financial need from the college or university he/she is enrolled at. The application and all supporting materials must be submitted to the address provided on the application, and must be received by the deadline date.
