Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards varies annually. Approximately three awards were provided last year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  2. Must be a resident of Arizona.
  3. Must attend one of the following eligible colleges or universities: Arizona State University, Grand Canyon University, Northern Arizona University, University of Arizona, Prescott College, Coconino Community College, Mohave Community College, or any of the Maricopa Community Colleges District campuses.
  4. Must be an undergraduate student at the time of application.

Additional Information: The Dougherty Foundation Scholarship is available for Arizona residents who are enrolled at one of the eligible public colleges or universities within the state. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The Arizona Community Foundation provides scholarships for high school seniors and current college students throughout Arizona. Selection for awards is based primarily on academic records, financial need (as demonstrated by the FAFSA paperwork), and the quality of other submission items such as essays and recommendation letters.

Award Amount: Awards will range from between $250 to $500 for community college students, and up to $2,000 annually for university students. Funds will be split equally between the fall and spring semesters. Scholarships may be renewed for the duration of the student's undergraduate studies, provided he or she maintains enrollment with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available on the Arizona Community Foundation website. To apply, the applicant must register with the foundation. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit the following: two letters of recommendation, one from his/her guidance counselor and one from a high school academic teacher, attesting to his/her academic strengths and determination to succeed at the university; a high school transcript through the seventh semester; a 500- to 700-word essay addressing the topic listed on the application; typed personal statements; verification of SAT and/or ACT test scores; and a Free Application for Federal Student Aid form(FAFSA). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. All application materials must be submitted together in the same envelope and be received by 5:00 p.m. on the deadline date.
