Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.
  2. This award is for U.S. students.
  3. Must demonstrate academic potential.
  4. Must have a history of religious involvement.
  5. Must be a resident of Dutchess or Orange county in New York.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.

Additional Information: Through the thoughtfulness and generosity of George A. Quill and his wife Catherine V. Quill, a scholarship fund has been established for the benefit of the residents of Dutchess and Orange counties.  Mr. and Mrs. Quill were active in their community as residents of Beacon New York for 35 years.  The Quills encouraged young people to have faith in God, and they stressed the importance of getting a good education, being self sufficient, and living a respectable & honest life. This scholarship is not necessarily intended for those students with the highest grade point average, but rather, it is intended for those students who must apply themselves to succeed in college and those who are able to demonstrate financial need.

Award Amount: $500 to $1,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online from the Community Foundation of the Hudson Valley website at the address provided. In addition to the completed application, each applicant must submit two letters of recommendation (one academic and one personal); a copy of his/her most recent transcript; a copy of the student's Student Aid Report (SAR) and Expected Family Contribution (EFC) information; and an essay of approximately 500 words responding to the prompt listed on the application. The Student Aid Report (SAR) is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. Applications must be completed online by the deadline date.
