Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards varies annually. Approximately three awards were provided last year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University or an accredited Arizona public university.
  2. This award is for U.S. students.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher.
  4. Must be majoring in a subject leading to a career in airline management

Additional Information: This scholarship was established by US Airways to honor the memory of Jeffrey D. McClelland, an executive with the airline who always valued honesty, education, hard work, and his passion for aviation and all things related to flying. The scholarship selection committe will be searching for students who exemplify these traits in their academic records, as well as in the responses to the supplemental essays provided as part of the application process. The Arizona Community Foundation provides scholarships for high school seniors and current college students throughout Arizona. Selection for awards is based primarily on academic records, financial need (as demonstrated by the FAFSA paperwork), and the quality of other submission items such as essays and recommendation letters.

Award Amount: $10,000 annually, renewable for up to one additional year. To be eligible for renewal, students must remain enrolled in good standing and must maintain a grade point average of 3.25 or higher. Awards will be disbursed in two equal parts for the fall and spring semesters.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $20,000.

Applications are available on the Arizona Community Foundation website. To apply, the applicant must register with the foundation. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit the following: two letters of recommendation, one from his/her guidance counselor and one from a high school academic teacher, attesting to his/her academic strengths and determination to succeed at the university; a high school transcript through the seventh semester; a 500- to 700-word essay addressing the topic listed on the application; typed personal statements; verification of SAT and/or ACT test scores; and a Free Application for Federal Student Aid form(FAFSA). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. All application materials must be submitted together in the same envelope and be received by 5:00 p.m. on the deadline date.
