Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards varies annually depending on the number of qualified applicants.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must have employment experience with migratory farm work.
  2. This award is for U.S. and international students.
  3. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.
  4. Must be attending a high school in Columbia County, New York.

Description: This award is available to a migrant farmworker senior high school student attending a high school in Columbia County, New York. The student should have demonstrated a caring attitude toward others or the community.

Application requirements for the Leah Levy Memorial Scholarship are:

  • Application form
  • Recommendation letter
  • Migrant Education Certificate of Eligibility (COE)
  • Personal statement
Additional Information: The purpose of this scholarship is to serve as a memorial to Leah Levy, educator, tutor, advocate, and friend to the migrant community, by offering an annual award in the amount of up to $500 for post-secondary scholarship assistance to a migrant farmworker senior high school student attending a high school in Columbia County, New York. The student should have demonstrated a caring attitude toward others or the community.

Award Amount: $500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,500.

Applications are available online from the Geneseo Migrant center website. In addition to the completed application, each student must submit a letter of recommendation from a school, community or educational agency representative with a personal knowledge of the applicant's character, educational commitment and financial need; a personal essay including his/her background, career, and personal goals and indicating why he/she should receive this assitance; proof that he/she has been admitted to the school chosen; and a copy of his/her current or most recent Migrant Education Program Certificate of Elegibility (COE).
