Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must reside in Baltimore, Maryland.
  2. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.
  3. Must plan to attend a public, four-year college or university in Maryland.
  4. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  6. This award is for U.S. students.

Description: This scholarship is available for high school seniors in Baltimore, Maryland who have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher and unmet financial need. Applicants must submit an essay describing his/her career and professional aspirations.

Additional Information: This scholarship is funded by Legg Mason Global Asset Management and provided in partnership between the Baltimore Community Foundation and the CollegeBound Foundation. Eligible local-area high school seniors must demonstrate academic merit, financial need, and clear goals for future academic and professional succes.

Award Amount: This award pays for up to four years of full tuition at a public Maryland university. Students must continue to remain eligible for future years of funding by enrolling full time and maintaining a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.

Information is available online at the CollegeBound Foundation website. Applications are only available online through the online portal. In addition to completing the CollegeBound Foundation Competitive Scholarship Application, the applicant must also submit the following: two letters of recommendation; a copy of his/her college acceptance letter(s); a typed essay addressing the topic listed on the application (if applicable); community service verification(s) (if applicable); and a copy of his/her most recent high school transcript, including the first semester of the senior year. Students applying for the Legg Mason College Scholarship must demonstrate financial need by including the following financial information forms: a copy of his/her Student Aid Report (SAR) or a copy of his/her parents' most recent tax return; a financial aid award letter from the college he/she will attend (the applicant should send a copy of the financial aid award letter as soon as it is received); and a Maryland Higher Education Commission Financial Aid Award Letter (if applicable). The SAR is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. All application materials must be received online no later than the deadline date.
