Number of Awards & Eligibility: Varies annually, based on the number of eligible recipients and the amount of available funding.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a permanent legal resident of Massachusetts.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  4. Must be enrolled full time (at least 12 credits or its equivalent).
  5. Must attend a state approved public, private, independent, for profit or non-profit institution in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Connecticut, Vermont, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, and District of Columbia that have reciprocity agreements with Massachusetts.
  6. Must demonstrate financial aid need.
  7. Must be a high school senior or older and must not have yet earned a baccalaureate or professional degree.

Description: This award is available to undergraduate students who reside in Massachusetts and who are enrolled in and pursuing a program of higher education in any approved public or independent college, university, school of nursing or any other approved institution of higher education. Students must demonstrate financial aid need as determined by the Federal Methodology need analysis criteria and have and EFC of $5,081 or less.

Additional Information: The MASSGrant is a grant assistance program funded by appropriations from the Massachusetts Legislature. The MASSGrant program provides need-based financial assistance to undergraduate students who reside in Massachusetts and who are enrolled in and pursuing a program of higher education in any approved public or independent college, university, school of nursing or any other approved institution furnishing a program of higher education. Eligible recipients must have an Expected Family contribution (EFC) of $5,081 or less. The EFC is determined from information provided on the FAFSA according to program guidelines and under Federal methodology need analysis criteria.

Award Amount: Award amounts vary depending on the student's Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) and the type of institution that he or she attends. Based on the previous academic year, award amounts ranges from $300 and $1,900 annually. Eligibility for the MASSGrant is restricted to a maximum number of semesters as follows: 10 semesters if enrolled in an approved five-year undergraduate program 8 semesters if enrolled in a four-year undergraduate program; 6 semesters if enrolled in a three-year undergraduate program 4 semesters if enrolled in a two-year undergraduate program; 2 semesters if enrolled in a one-year certificate or diploma program.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,900.

Additional information about this award is available from the Massachusetts Office of Student Financial Assistance (MOSFA) website. To apply, interested students must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The FAFSA must be received by the Federal Processor for state scholarship/grant consideration after January 1st but before May 1st to be considered for the award year.Each participating college or university may require students to submit additional forms or supplemental information before scholarship eligibility can be determined. Students should contact his/her institution for additional details.
