Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards varies annually. Last year five awards were offered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a high school senior or older for this undergraduate and graduate award.
  4. Must be a resident of Fayette County, West Virginia or be a high school graduate from Fayette County, West Virginia.
  5. Must be a full-time student (12 credit hours or more).
  6. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
  7. Must have an ACT score of 20 or higher.

Application requirements for the Michael W. McDaniel Scholarship Fund are:

  • Recommendation letter
  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • Tax return
Additional Information: Students may only receive one scholarship per year from TGKVF. The applicant will be notified by TGKVF by May 15. The foundation will mail the full amount of the award in August. It is applied to the entire academic year. The check is payable jointly to the recipient and the college, but is mailed directly to the recipient. Any student who withdraws from school for any reason will be expected to notify the foundation of his/her status and refund any unused, refundable portion of the scholarship. In addition to other requirements, the applicant must also demonstrate good moral character and financial need.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, renewable for up to three years if the student continues to meet the eligibility requirements and reapplies.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as previous years. Please check back in November when applications are expected to become available. Applications are available online on The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation Website (TGKVF). *Please note: Applications are only accepted through online submission. The entire application does not have to be completed at one time. Students will create a password so that they may return to complete the application at a later time. In addition to the application form, the student must submit his/her most recent federal income tax return and grade transcript online. These documents must be scanned and then attached to the application. Letters of recommendation and/or professor evaluation forms must be sent separately in a sealed envelope to The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation at the address provided. Forms for these letters are available at www.tgkvf.org/scholar.htm. Students may apply for up to two Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation scholarships using one application. The application and additional documents must be received by the deadline date.
