Number of Awards & Eligibility: The Milken Family Foundation expects to select between 10 and 20 new Milken Scholars this year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.6 or higher.
  4. Must have an ACT score of 28 or higher OR a combined math, critical reading, and writing SAT score of 1350 or higher.
  5. Must be a high school senior at time of application.
  6. Must be a resident of and and attending high school in Los Angeles, CA, New York City, NY, or Washington, D.C.

Eligible applicants must demonstrate leadership and community service, must have a grade point average of 3.6 or higher, and must demonstrate financial need.

Additional Information: The Milken Scholars Program celebrates and supports academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, as well as school and community service among college-bound students with financial need who have overcome social, economic or other obstacles. Milken Scholars must commit to attend all annual program activities (expenses paid), including a three-day retreat, and maintain a 3.0 grade point average throughout their undergraduate college careers. Scholars are also encouraged to participate in community service activities in their home and/or school community.

Award Amount: Selected scholars will receive a $2,000 scholarship (paid over four years), a recognition dinner, and an annual retreat. Milken scholars also have access to ongoing counseling and support for personal, academic, and professional issues; assistance with career-related experiences through internships and shadowing opportunities; and a graduate fund, which assists students as they prepare for the world of work or graduate school.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $8,000.

Applications and nomination forms are available online at the Milken Family Foundation website or at Los Angeles, CA, New York City, and Washington D.C. high school guidance offices. Each applicant must be nominated by a college advisor at his/her high school. Students who are nominated by their college advisors to participate in the program must complete a rigorous selection process that includes completion of a five-page application as well as submission of letters of recommendation, high school transcripts, and a financial aid profile. Finalists are then selected and invited to interview. Nominations are due by November 30 and must be submitted online. Final applications are due by Jan. 25.
