Number of Awards & Eligibility: Varies, approximately 3,100 awards disbursed annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a resident of New Mexico.
  2. Must attend a New Mexico public college or university.
  3. Must enroll at least half time (6 credit hours).
  4. Must demonstrate financial need and not be receiving any other state grants and/or scholarships.
  5. Must be a high school graduate or older and have not yet earned a baccalaureate degree.
  6. This award is for U.S students.

Description: This award is for New Mexico residents who are enrolled at a public college or institution in New Mexico. The student must demonstrate financial need and must not be receiving any other state grants and scholarships.

Application requirements for the New Mexico College Affordability Grant are:

Additional Information: The College Affordability Grant is a state program, administered through the New Mexico Higher Education Department (NMHED), established to encourage New Mexico students to attend and complete educational programs at a public New Mexico college or university. The award is based on the financial need of the student, as calculated by the college or university.

Award Amount: Up to $1,000 per a semester ($2,000 annually), renewable for up to a total of eight consecutive semesters (four years).  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $8,000.
