In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  3. Must be a resident of New Jersey.
  4. Must be a NJ STARS recipient.
  5. Must have completed an associate's degree from a New Jersey college.
  6. Must have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher while in county college.
  7. Must have a family income (including taxable and untaxed income) of $250,000 or less.
  8. Must be admitted to a New Jersey four-year public institution.
  9. Must be enrolled in a full-time course of study (minimum 12 college-level credits) each semester.

Description: This scholarship is available for New Jersey STARS recipients who plan to transfer from a New Jersey county college to a New Jersey four-year public college or university. Students must have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher and a family income of $250,000 or less.

Additional Information: The NJ STARS II Program is a continuation of the NJ STARS Program which provides successful NJ STARS students at New Jersey county colleges with funding to transfer to a New Jersey four-year public college or university to earn a bachelor's degree. Students must apply for all forms of state and federal need-based grants and merit scholarships. The NJ STARS II award will be based on tuition only, except for Tuition Aid Grant (TAG) recipients who will receive NJ STARS II awards based on tuition and approved fees. The amount of the NJ STARS II award will be determined after all other state and federal grants and scholarships are applied to charges.

Award Amount: The NJ STARS II award will be based on tuition only, except for Tuition Aid Grant recipients who willreceive NJ STARS II awards based on tuition and approved fees. The amount of the NJ STARS II award will be determined after all other state and federal grants and scholarships are applied to these charges, not to exceed $1,250 per semester.The state funds 100 percent of the NJ STARS II award, while students will be responsible for any remaining balance. NJ STARS II awards are dependent upon annual state appropriations. Awards are renewable for up to four semesters, excluding summer sessions. To renew, the student must: file a FAFSA; maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher; maintain continuous full-time enrollment.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,144.

There is no specific application required to apply. Eligible students will be automatically considered upon admission to an eligible New Jersey college or university. To determine award eligibility, each participating college or university may require students to submit additional forms or supplemental information before scholarship eligibility can be determined. Students should contact their institutions for additional details. Students must also file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for this award. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and in college financial aid offices. The FAFSA must be received by Sep. 15 to be considered for the entire academic year or by Feb. 15 to be considered for the spring semester only.
