Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund

Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually and is based on funding.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a low income person at or near the poverty level.
  2. Must be single.
  3. This award is for U.S. students.
  4. Must be a resident of Saline County in Arkansas.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must have one or more children under the age of 18.
  7. Must be the head of the household.
  8. Must have and maintain a grade point average of 2.0 or higher.
  9. Must be a high school graduate or GED recipient or older to apply for this undergraduate award.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Undergraduate single parents who reside in Saline County, Arkansas and have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher are eligible for this award. Students must live at or near the poverty level and have one or more children under the age of 18.

Additional Information: The purpose of this scholarship is to provide supplemental financial assistance to single parents who are pursuing a course of instruction that will improve their income-earning potential. Students must not have previously earned a bachelor's degree. Applicants are also required to participate in an interview.

Award Amount: Awards will be given in the following amounts: up to $500 for the fall and spring semesters for full-time students; and $250 for the fall and spring semesters for part-time students. All awards are offered annually and are non-renewable. The applicant may re-apply each semester he/she is attending school, but he/she MUST fill out a renewal application for each semester an award is sought.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

Applications are available online at the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund website, and must be completed online. In addition to the completed application, the following items are required by the application deadline: A one page, typed, personal essay that describes the applicant's career objectives and financial need; One letter from a non-relative such as employer, professor, or pastor describing your character and work ethic; Copies of all college transcripts; and a schedule of classes from the college the applicant plans to attend during the semester in which this scholarship will be used. Electronic copies of these documents may be uploaded through the Supporting Documents section of your online application. Applications must be submitted by the deadline date, and they may not be edited after submission is completed.
