Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a high school senior or undergraduate student at the time of application.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  4. Must reside in Palo Alto, California.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: The Sandra Pearson Student of Courage Award is available to high school seniors students residing in or attending school in Palo Alto, CA. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Application requirements for the Sandra Pearson Award: Student of Courage are:

  • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Official Transcript
  • Statement of financial need
  • Proof of citizenship
  • Recommendation letter
Additional Information: The Sandra Pearson Student of Courage Award is provided annually to graduating seniors at Palo Alto High School and Gunn High School in Palo Alto, California. Appicants must demonstrate courage, bravery, and strength of character. Additional consideration will be given to applicants who have served as an inspiration to their fellow students.

Award Amount: Up to $1,200 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,400.

Additional information is available on the Silicon Valley Community Foundation website. To request an application, Palo Alto High School students must contact Sandra Cernobori at scernobori@pausd.org or by phone at 650-329-3813. Gunn High School students must contact Leighton Lang via email at llang@pausd.org or by phone at 650-354-8219. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit the following: two letters of recommendation (the letters must be from the people listed on the application); an official transcript of grades; a personal statement addressing the topics listed on the application; evidence of financial need as described on the application; and proof of U.S. citizenship (photocopy of birth certificate, passport or naturalization papers). The complete application packet must be completed online by the deadline date.
