Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to 10 awards provided annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must attend high school in the Sequoia Union High School District or East Side College Preparatory in East Palo Alto, Calif.
  2. Must be a graduating high school senior.
  3. This award is for U.S. and international students.
  4. Must demonstrate an interest in social justice causes. Additional preference will be given to students involved in immigration-related causes and students who are immigrants or first-generation Americans.

Description: The Silicon Valley Community Foundation Social Justice Scholarship is provided annually to students in Sequoia Union High School District or East Side College Preparatory in East Palo Alto, Calif who have demonstrated an interest in social justice advocacy.

Additional Information: The Silicon Valley Community Foundation Social Justice Scholarship is provided annually to graduating seniors at Sequoia Union High School District or East Side College Preparatory in East Palo Alto, California (Including Atherton, Belmont, East Palo Alto, Ladera, San Carlos, Menlo Park, Portola Valley, Redwood City, and Woodside). Applicants must demonstrate an interest in social justice issues and a passion for being involved in social justice activism throughout college and beyond. Preference will be given to applicants who have demonstrated an interest in immigrant-related causes and/or applicants who are themselves immigrants or from a first-generation family.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, renewable for up to five additional years for a total award of $12,000 over six years of study.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $12,000.

Applications are available on the Silicon Valley Community Foundation website. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit the following: two letters of recommendation (the letters must be from the people listed on the application); an official transcript of grades; a personal statement addressing the topics listed on the application; evidence of financial need as described on the application; and proof of U.S. citizenship (photocopy of birth certificate, passport or naturalization papers). The complete application packet must be completed and submitted by email no later than the deadline date.
