Number of Awards & Eligibility: Varies, all qualified applicants will be considered depending on the amount of funding available. In the previous academic year, approximately 26,000 awards were disbursed.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a legal resident of South Carolina.
  3. Must attend or plan to attend an eligible South Carolina college or university.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  5. Must not have been convicted of any felonies or been convicted of any alcohol or drug-related misdemeanor offenses.
  6. Must be enrolled at least part time (six or more credits per term/semester).
  7. Must be a high school senior or older and not have yet received a degree.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for U.S. students who are residents of South Carolina and plan to enroll at an eligible S.C. public institution. The student must demonstrate financial need and be enrolled in their first associate, baccalaureate, or professional degree program.

Application requirements for the South Carolina Need-based Grant Program are:

Additional Information: The purpose of the S.C. Need-based grant is to provide additional financial aid to South Carolina’s neediest students.

Award Amount: The award amount is for up to $2,500 annually for full-time students and up to $1,250 annually for part-time students. The award amounts may vary, final award amounts are determined by each participating institution. Students may receive up to a maximum of eight full-time equivalent terms. Eligibility for renewal is determined according to the institutions financial aid policy. Contact the institution’s financial aid office for details.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $7,500.
