In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of South Carolina.
  3. Must attend one of the twenty-one participating independent colleges located in the state of South Carolina.
  4. Must enroll full time (12 or more credit hours per term/semester).
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen.
  6. Must graduate in the upper 75 percent of the high school class, or have an SAT score of 900 or higher on the math and critical reading sections or an ACT score of 19 or higher, or have a final high school grade point average of 2.0 or higher.
  7. Must be a graduating high school senior or older and have not yet received a bachelor’s degree.
  8. Must demonstrate financial need.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available to South Carolina resident undergraduate students who are attending a South Carolina Independent college or university. The student must demonstrate financial need and satisfy the following requirements: an incoming freshmen must graduate in the top 75% of your high school graduating class or score at least 900 on the SAT Test (Math & Critical Reading Sections Only) or 19 Composite on the ACT Test or graduate from high school with a GPA of at least 2.00.

Additional Information: The SC Tuition Grants Program is administered by the SC Higher Education Tuition Grants Commission through an annual appropriation by the State General Assembly. The program's purpose is to provide need-based grant assistance to eligible South Carolina undergraduate students attending, on a full time basis, eligible independent non-profit in-state colleges. Because the South Carolina Tuition Grant is based on financial need, the Commission calculates financial eligibility based on the following factors: (1) family income, (2) family assets, (3) cost of the college selected, (4) number of family members in the household, and (5) the number of household members attending college. Students should contact his/her institution's financial aid office for additional details. Awards are contingent on funding of the program by the SC General Assembly.

Award Amount: Up to $3,600 grants offered  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,600.

Students apply for the South Carolina Tuition Grants Program by completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The FAFSA should be completed as soon as possible after January 1 for award consideration for the upcoming award year, and must be submitted by June 30th each year.
