In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a member or the child of a member of a local union that is affiliated with the Texas AFL-CIO and the local Central Labor Council.
  4. Must be a resident of Texas.
  5. Must be a high school senior who is planning to attend a university, college or technical institute in the upcoming summer or fall term.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for a Texas high school senior who is a member or the child of a member of a local union that is affiliated with the Texas AFL-CIO and the local Central Labor Council.

  • Interview
  • Photo (headshot)
Additional Information: The Texas AFL-CIO Scholarship is based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities, performance on the test and personal interviews, and financial need.

Award Amount: $1,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $6,000.

Applications are available on the Texas AFL-CIO website. In addition to the completed application, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her high school transcripts and a head shot photograph for processing. The applicant must also take a test on organized labor based on materials that the Texas AFL-CIO provides the applicant, and he/she must sit for interviews with officers of the Central Labor Council near his/her home. The application must be postmarked no later than the deadline date and sent to the address provided.
