Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award provided annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. and international students.
  2. Must attend San José State University.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  4. This award is for women.
  5. Must be majoring in political science or public administration.
  6. Must be an undergraduate or graduate student at the time of application.

Description: The Fauneil J. Rinn Scholarship is available for women who are studying political science or public administration at San José State University. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Additional Information: The Fauneil J. Rinn Scholarship was established by Theodore M. Norton, a friend and colleague of San Jose State University's Professor Fauneil J. Rinn. The award was created to honor and continue her work to advocate for the advancement of women in society. In addition to the standard Silicon Valley Foundation online application materials, applicants must also submit an original 500 word essay on a subject related to the political role of women and government's job in advancing gender equality.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications are available on the Silicon Valley Community Foundation website. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit the following: two letters of recommendation (the letters must be from the people listed on the application); an official transcript of grades; a personal statement addressing the topics listed on the application; evidence of financial need as described on the application; and proof of U.S. citizenship (photocopy of birth certificate, passport or naturalization papers).The complete application packet must be completed online by the deadline date.
