Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to four awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be 21 years of age or older.
  3. Must be a be resident of one of the following counties: Bernalillo, Sandoval, Torrance, Valencia or Santa Fe.
  4. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  5. Must be a part-time student.
  6. Must work 20 hours per week or more.
  7. Must plan to attend an accredited postsecondary, not-for-profit educational institution in New Mexico.
  8. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  9. Must be a high school graduate or older at time of application.
  10. Must major in healthcare, education, science, egineering, mathematics, accounting, or finance.

Description: This award is available for U.S. undergraduate or graduate part-time students who are residents of Albuquerque, New Mexico and plan to attend an accredited postsecondary, not-for-profit educational institution in New Mexico. Students must be 21 years of age or older, work 20 hours per week or more, and have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Additional Information: The Excel Staffing Companies Endowment for Excellence in Continuing Education Scholarship Program, a fund held within the Albuquerque Community Foundation, was established in 1989 with the express purpose of assisting individuals in pursuit of excellence in a career. This program recognizes the hardships imposed on individuals who are working 30 hours per week or more and attending school to attain an undergraduate or graduate degree, or professional certification. These awards are made to individuals who need financial assistance to attain a career goal, and have taken the initiative to reach for a goal and have demonstrated a commitment to that goal.

Award Amount: $500 to $1,000 annually, non-renewable. A previous recipient may reapply the following year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $750.

Applications are available on the Albuquerque Community Foundation website. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit a resume, a personal statement addressing the topic listed on the application, a current transcript, a letter from his/her employer verifying employment of 30 hours per week or more, and up to two letters of reference from a teacher or counselor (the letters must be sealed or sent under a separate cover). The applicant also has the option to submit a letter of reference verifying his/her community service and/or volunteer commitment. The application and all supporting materials must be submitted by the deadline date.
