Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately 12 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  3. Must be an incoming freshman.
  4. Must plan to attend the University of Oregon.
  5. Must be a resident of Oregon.
  6. Must demonstrate extraordinary financial need.
  7. Preference is given to students who declare a major in the humanities, visual arts, education, or music.

Description: This award is for U.S. students who will be incoming freshmen at the University of Oregon. Students must be residents of Oregon and must demonstrate extraordinary financial need. Preference is given to students who declare a major in the humanities, visual arts, education, or music.

Application requirements for the University of Oregon Staton Scholarship are:

Additional Information: Bernice Ingalls Staton established the Staton Scholarship Program in 2001 so students could further their education without financial burden. Awards are based primarily on financial need. Other factors include the student's major, professional objective, academic performance, and family educational history with priority given to first-generation college students. Recipients of Staton Scholarships will be notified by April 1.

Award Amount: $6,950 renewaable ever year for four years totaling $27,800. To renew the scholarship, recipients must: maintain good academic standing; and make satisfactory progress toward completion of degree objective, completing no fewer than 12 credits each term of the academic year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $83,400.

Scholarship information is available online on the University of Oregon (UO) website. To apply for this scholarship, the student must apply for admission to UO by Jan. 15. A separate scholarship application is not required. Admissions information is available online at admissions.uoregon.edu/freshmen. In addition to the admissions application, the student must submit the following documents: official high school transcripts; ACT and/or SAT scores (sent directly from the testing service or included on transcripts); an application essay of 500 words or less sharing information that is not included elsewhere in his/her application; and an explanation of personal circumstances that affected academic performance (optional). The student must also submit the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by Feb. 15. The FAFSA is available online at www.fasfa.ed.gov. The student must list UO as one of his/her top six choices on the FAFSA.
