In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must enroll in and maintain at least half-time enrollment (with a minimum of six credits) in an eligible academic program.
  2. Must be a bona-fide domiciliary resident of Virginia.
  3. Must be a high school graduate or have received a general education development (GED).
  4. Must be certified to be in foster care, in the custody of a social service agency, a special needs adoption at the time of receiving a high school diploma or GED, or was formerly in foster care when turning 18 and subsequently earned a high school diploma or GED.
  5. This award is for U.S. students.

Description: This award is available to Virginia resident undergraduate students who are planning to attend an eligible Virginia community college. The student must be a certified foster child at the time of receiving a high school diploma or GED, or was formerly in foster care when turning 18 and subsequently earned a high school diploma or GED.

Additional Information: The Tuition Grant program provides tuition and fees at any Virginia community college for high school graduates or general education development (GED) completers in foster care, in the custody of a social services agency, or considered a special needs adoption. Students can contact your his/her Department of Social Services office or the financial aid office of his/her local community college for additional information.

Award Amount: Award amounts vary. Awards will help pay for the cost of tuition and fees at eligible community colleges. The awards may not exceed tuition and required fees. To determine the exact award amount students should contact his/her school's financial aid office.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $6,200.
