Additional Information: The primary mission of the Watson-Brown Foundation is to provide college scholarships to area students based on merit and need. This internal scholarship program is entirely managed by the staff of the foundation. Scholarship awards are decided by the board of trustees during its regular second quarter meeting. The scholarship award is awarded to help defray the costs of tuition, books, and room and board. Scholarship checks will be mailed directly from the foundation to the financial aid office of the recipient's college/univeristy of choice. Priority will be given to students residing in particular counties of Georgia and South Carolina. Please visit the Watson-Brown Scholarship Program website for a listing of these counties. Although standardized test scores do not solely reflect academic merit, the scholarship committee does note SAT and/or ACT scores when evaluating applications. Last year, the SAT scores of scholarship recipients ranged from 910 to 1600 (verbal + math). The average SAT score was a 1280. High School grade point averages ranged from 3.2 to 4.0 (on a 4.0 scale).

Award Amount: $3,000 or $5,000 annually, renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study. The amount awarded is dependent on the merit of the applicant. Previous recipients must submit transcripts to the foundation at the end of each semester to verify that he/she has maintained a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and taken 12 or more credit hours. There is a short renewal application; however, the application is used mainly to update student information.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.
