Educational Foundation for Women in Accounting (EFWA)

Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a graduating high school senior, current college freshman or re-entering college freshman at time of application.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  4. Must be a female.
  5. Must major in accounting.
  6. Must be the sole source of support for herself and her family. This may have been caused as a result of the death of her spouse, a divorce or other circumstances.
  7. Must enroll full time.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is designated for a woman who is the primary source of support for her family and is enrolling as an incoming freshman to earn a Bachelors degree in Accounting. Up to $16,000 over four years is awarded and will be renewed annually upon completion of satisfactory course work as evidenced by a 3.0 GPA.

Additional Information: The Women in Transition Scholarship was established in order to women who are pursuing a degree in accounting while also providing primary financial support for her family. The selection of award recipients is largely based on aptitude, commitment to a career in accounting, and demonstrated financial need. Scholarship recipients will be selected by June 30.

Award Amount: Up to $4,000 annually, renewable for up to three years dependent upon successful completion of course requirements (12 hours each term).  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $16,000.

Applications are available on the Educational Foundation for Women in Accounting website. In addition to the completed application, each applicant must submit a scholastic record including official transcripts from high school, junior college and college; an employment record; listing of volunteer and professional activities; a detailed listing of all honors and awards received; a statement of her career goals and objectives; a statement of her personal goals and objectives; proof of financial need; copies of tax returns from three previous years; four total references (two personal and two professional); a statement from her academic advisor assessing the overall quality of her work; school contact information; and the place where she heard about the scholarship. Applicants may be contacted to participate in a personal interview or conference call. All materials must be submitted online by the deadline date.
