  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a high school senior who plans to continue his/her education after high school.
  3. Must reside in Minnesota.

Description: This essay contest is open to Minnesota high school seniors who wish to continue their education after high school. Students must write a 1,000-word essay on a biodiesel topic to apply.

Additional Information: The Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council sponsors the annual Biodiesel Essay Scholarship contest to help raise awareness. All entries will be judged on the following criteria: accuracy of information cited in essay; demonstrating a thorough understanding of biodiesel and its uses; creative thinking and original ideas on biodiesel; spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Winners will be notified no later than May 31, 2019. A news release will be submitted to area newspapers and CleanAirChoice.org will highlight the winner's photos and essays.

Award Amount: The first-place essay writer will receive a $1,000 scholarship; the second-place essay writer will receive a $500 scholarship. Awards are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $750.

Applications are available online on the American Lung Association in Minnesota website.To apply, the student must complete an entry form and write an essay of no more than 1,000 words on a biodiesel-related topic. Suggested topics are listed in the contest rules, or the student can create his/her own topic. The student must be sure to not include his/her name or high school within the body of the essay.The student may apply online by uploading his/her essay in Word form, by scanning his/her documents and emailing (in Word or PDF) to the address provided, or mailing to the address provided. Online entries are preferred.All entries must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on the deadline date. Entries received after this deadline will not be accepted. All entries become the property of American Lung Association in Minnesota and cannot be returned.
