Number of Awards & Eligibility: Five awards offered annually.

  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.
  3. Must be graduating high school or receiving a GED within nine months OR be a current college student.

Description: This scholarship contest is open to U.S. high school seniors and current college/university students. Students must submit an essay to be considered; public voting for finalists' essays will determine the winners.

Application requirements for the Law Office of Cohen & Jaffe, LLP Scholarship Program are:

  • Official Transcript
  • Proof of legal residency
  • Proof of acceptance
  • Essay
Additional Information: Ten essays will be selected by the law firm as finalists and published on its site. Finalists will be notified by April 26, 2019. The essays that receive the most votes from visitors to the site during the public voting period will be the winners. Public voting takes place from May 3 to May 28. The winners will be contacted by June 7, 2019 and announced on June 10. Employees of the Law Office of Cohen & Jaffe, LLP, Consultwebs.com, Inc., their boards of directors and immediate family members are not eligible for this essay contest.

Award Amount: Scholarships are awarded as follows: first place, $1,000; runner-up, $500; and three honorable mentions, $250 each. The scholarship is to be used exclusively for tuition at an institution of higher learning and related expenses such as books, supplies, etc. An award check will be made payable to the award recipient's school and/or supplier of books, supplies, etc. to cover these expenses. Award winners are expected to submit receipts in accordance with IRS regulations.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $450.

Application information is available on the Law Office of Cohen & Jaffe, LLP website. To apply, the student must submit the following documents: an official copy of a current academic transcript; proof of legal residency in U.S. (i.e., birth certificate, passport, driver's license, permanent resident card, etc.); proof of acceptance to an institution of higher learning; and a one-page essay of 500 to 750 words on one of the topics posted on the website. All documents must be in .doc, .docx, or .pdf formats. The student's full name, email address, mailing address, and phone number must appear at the top of the essay, and the student should include one to two sentences about himself/herself. The student should not send any materials not mentioned above. All application materials must be emailed to the attention of Richard Jaffe at the address provided, and must be submitted no later than the deadline date.
