Number of Awards & Eligibility: Three awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be an undergraduate or graduate student.
  3. Must be an accounting or business major.
  4. Must attend a Pennsylvania college or university OR maintain a permanent residence in Pennsylvania while attending an out-of-state college or university.

Description: This writing competition is open to graduate and undergraduate accounting and business majors. Students must attend Pennsylvania colleges/universities or maintain a permanent residence in Pennsylvania.

Application requirements for the PICPA Student Writing Competition are:

  • Application form
  • Research paper
Additional Information: The competition is designed to encourage students to research and write about issues impacting the business environment. Papers are evaluated for content, method of presentation, and writing style.

Award Amount: Awards are given as follows: first place, $3,000 and publication in the fall issue of the 'Pennsylvania CPA Journal' and on the Future CPAs section of the PICPA website; second place, $1,800 and publication on the Future CPAs section of the PICPA website; third place, $1,200 and publication on the Future CPAs section of the PICPA website. All participants who have not graduated by award time will be offered a one-year complimentary PICPA Student Affiliate membership.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Entry information is available on the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) website. To enter the competition, the student must submit a 1,500- to 2,000-word research paper on the current year's topic. Additional information explaining the topic is available on the PICPA website. The paper must be typed in 12-point font, and must contain proper citation of sources. No co-authored papers are accepted. Papers may be submitted in any of the following methods: online; by email to the address provided; by mail to the address provided. If emailed or mailed, the student must download the author information sheet from the PICPA website and submit it along with the paper. All papers must be submitted by the deadline.
