Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. *Please note: The number of recipients for this program varies according to the number of students meeting the eligibility requirements in any given year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a female.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  4. Must have a desire to change/advance careers and/or be re-entering the work force.
  5. Must hold a bachelor's degree at time of application.

Description: This award is available for women who hold a bachelor's degree and are preparing to advance or change careers or re-enter the work force. Special consideration is given to AAUW members, women of color, and women pursuing their first advanced degree or credentials in nontraditional fields. Eligible applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents.

Additional Information: The AAUW Grants support women who hold a bachelor's degree and are preparing to advance their careers, change careers, or re-enter the work force. Special consideration is given to AAUW members, women of color, and women pursuing their first advanced degree or credentials in non-traditional fields. The grants will go to support the academic year of July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019. Grants provide support for coursework beyond a bachelor's degree, including a master's degree, second bachelor's degree, certification program or specialized training in a technical or professional field. Coursework must be taken at an accredited two- or four-year college or university, or at a technical school that is fully licensed or accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Distance learning programs will be funded only if they are conducted through an accredited institution appearing on the U.S. Department of Education's list of approved online/distance learning programs. Funds are not available for doctoral-level work.

Award Amount: $2,000 to $12,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $60,000.

Applications are available beginning Aug. 1 through Dec. 15 on the American Association of University Women (AAUW) website. An applicant must follow these instructions to apply. First, she should read the application instructions thoroughly. Second, she should create an account in order to register herself to the website. Third, she is required to take an eligibility quiz. If she passes, she will go on to the actual application. In addition to the completed application, the following materials must be submitted: a proposal narrative; a proposed budget; the name and email address of an individual who will write a recommendation; and a filing fee of $35. Instructions on completing the required narratives are available on the application; the applicant is strongly encouraged to conform to the required format or she may face disqualification. Applications must be completed and submitted online by 11:59 p.m. central time on the deadline date. Please note: Recommendations must be completed and submitted online by 11:59 p.m. central time by Dec. 15.
