Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be a high school senior or current undergraduate or graduate student.
  4. Must be diagnosed with cystic fibrosis.

Description: This scholarship is open to U.S. undergraduate and graduate students who have been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. Students are selected on the basis of scholastic ability, character, leadership potential, service to the community, and need for financial assistance.

Application requirements for the BEF General Academic Scholarship Program are:

  • Interview (semi-finalists only)
Additional Information: The BEF Scholarship Program committee considers the applicant's scholastic ability, character, leadership potential, service to the community, and need for financial assistance. Once candidates have been selected as semi-finalists, they will be granted a phone interview with a committee member.

Award Amount: $1,000 to $5,000 annually, non-renewable. Awards are made directly to the academic institution to assist in covering the cost of tuition and fees.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications are available on the Boomer Esiason Foundation website. As part of the online application, the student must provide the following materials: an essay of no more than 300 words discussing the importance of compliance to cystic fibrosis therapies and what he/she practices daily to stay healthy; an essay of no more than 300 words discussing his/her post-graduation goals; a recent photograph; a letter from his/her doctor confirming diagnosis of cystic fibrosis; a transcript (high school, college, and/or graduate school); a letter of acceptance from his/her institution; a detailed breakdown of tuition costs from academic institution; and W2 forms for both parents (as appropriate) or a tax return if self-employed. Completed applications must be returned to the address provided. There are four application deadline dates for this program in 2018: March 30, June 29, Sep. 28, and Dec. 28.
