Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be an undergraduate or graduate student.
  4. Must have cystic fibrosis. The student must also demonstrate exemplary service and commitment to the prevention and cure of cystic fibrosis.

Description: This scholarship is open to U.S. undergraduate and graduate students who have cystic fibrosis. Students must demonstrate exemplary service and commitment to the prevention and cure of cystic fibrosis.

Additional Information: The Bonnie Strangio Education Scholarship was established in 2005 to honor the memory of Bonnie Strangio. The scholarship is awarded to a person living with cystic fibrosis who, like Bonnie, has an upbeat personality and "can-do" attitude, and shows a tremendous passion for life in achieving their goals despite battling cystic fibrosis. The scholarship committee will select finalists, who will be interviewed thereafter. The award recipient will be chosen by a majority vote.

Award Amount: $500 to $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $750.

Applications are available on the Boomer Esiason Foundation website. As part of the online application, the student must provide the following materials: an essay of no more than 300 words discussing the importance of compliance to cystic fibrosis therapies and what he/she practices daily to stay healthy; an essay of no more than 300 words discussing his/her post-graduation goals; a recent photograph; a letter from his/her doctor confirming diagnosis of cystic fibrosis; a transcript (high school, college, and/or graduate school); a letter of acceptance from his/her institution; a detailed breakdown of tuition costs from academic institution; and W2 forms for both parents (as appropriate) or a tax return if self-employed. Applications must be submitted online and supplemental documents must be received at the address provided by 5:00 p.m. on the deadline date.
