Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Up to 10 percent of qualified associates are awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must have graduated high school/home school or obtained a GED before applying, or be a graduating high school senior. Please note: If applying as a high school senior, the student must wait to apply until he/she is within six months of starting college courses.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident.
  4. Must have been employed part time or full time with any division of Walmart for at least six consecutive months prior to the application deadline date for the application period in which the student is applying.

Description: This award is for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students who have been employed by Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. as an associate for at least six consecutive months. The student must have financial need and be able to prove such need via required documentation.

Application requirements for the Walmart Associate Scholarship are:

  • Income tax return
Additional Information: The student must have financial need and be able to demonstrate the need with required documents. Students with other funds that pay entirely for tuition, books, fees, and on-campus room and board are ineligible. Associates are eligible to apply for and receive a Walmart Associate Scholarship for any degree or certificate pursued, as long as they meet all eligibility requirements. Only one Walmart Associate Scholarship can be awarded per degree or certificate.

Award Amount: The funding levels per award period for students attending APU and two-year institutions are as follows: for 3-6 credit hours, $500; for 7-11 credit hours, $750; and for 12 or more credit hours, $1,000. The funding levels per award period for students attending four-year and graduate institutions are as follows: for 3-6 credit hours, $750; for 7-11 credit hours, $1,125; and for 12 or more credit hours, $1,500. The funding limits per Walmart fiscal year are as follows: certificate program (undergraduate or graduate), $1,500; associate's degree, $2,000; bachelor's degree, $3,000; and graduate degree, $2,000. All amounts are within a single Walmart fiscal year. The maximum amount a student can receive over six years is $16,000. The scholar can continue to renew the scholarship until the degree or certificate is awarded, the funding limit has been reached, or the six-year time limit has lapsed, whichever comes first. To renew, the scholar must provide proof of a grade point average of 2.0 or higher and enrollment of at least three credit hours in the upcoming term.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $195,000.
