Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Last year, one scholarship was awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be a resident of the Triangle Area of North Carolina (Durham, Orange, and Wake counties).
  4. Must have received a high school diploma by June or a GED by the time the application is submitted.
  5. Must attend a postsecondary educational or technical institution in North Carolina.
  6. Must be pursuing a career in the health professions OR be a single working parent.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is open to U.S. students who are residents of the Triangle Area of North Carolina (Durham, Orange, and Wake counties) and attend a North Carolina postsecondary institutions. Students must be pursuing a career in the health professions or be a single working parent.

  • FAFSA
  • Recommendation letters (2)
  • Essay
  • Interview (if requested)
Additional Information: The scholarship is based on financial need. The Scholarship Committee may personally interview applicants before the scholarship award decisions are made. The selected applicants will be notified during the first week of May. Please note: Students must submit a postsecondary school student ID number or Social Security number by May 15, so funds can be released to the school of choice.

Award Amount: $1,000 to $7,500 annually, non-renewable. Previous recipients may reapply.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $7,500.

Applications are available on the Assistance League of the Triangle Area website. In addition to a completed application, each student must submit the following materials: verification of high school graduation, including transcript and grade point average, or GED; his/her current college/university transcript verifying grade point average, if applicable; proof of permanent residency if he/she is not a U.S. citizen; a complete copy of his/her FAFSA/SAR showing income and number of dependents; two letters of reference, one from an employer or professional associate and one from someone outside his/her family who knows him/her well; and an essay of 300 to 500 words describing a post-high school experience that has had a strong impact on his/her educational objectives or goals. Applications must be mailed to the address provided and must be postmarked by the deadline date.
